Our Thoughts Control Our Actions




Have you ever wondered why you thought something? Or why you did what you did? Well, that’s your brain working, and this is called neuroscience. Neuroscience deals with the function and structure of the nervous system, which has two parts the central and peripheral. The central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord, which works with the nerves in the peripheral nervous system.


Neuroscience is everywhere and is involved with everything we do, especially when playing sports. I am a competitive golfer and have found many instances where my brain and mind has controlled my actions, positively and negatively. When I am confident about myself and have a strong sense that I will make the putt, it goes in the hole. On the other hand, there are instances where a bunker or the water hazard come into the back of my mind, and my golf ball ends up in the hazards. Golf like many other sports is a mental game. What our brain tells us most likely happens, but why is this?


Neurons, there are about a 100 billion filled throughout our brain, and they send electrical signals from the brain to many different parts of the body. Neurons are coded messages coming from your brain and it tells your body what to do. When you pick an apple, the neurons in your brain are sending messages to your hand to grab the apple. When you are swinging a golf club, the neurons in your brain are sending signals to your arms, hips, chest, and legs to rotate and help you hit the golf ball. Neurons are the reason we are able to do many activities.


In conclusion, we have to control our thoughts and make them positive so we can eliminate any bad ideas coming into our mind. When you see a hazard, do not think of the possibility of your golf ball going there, think the ball is hitting the fairway or landing on the green. If we change our thoughts and make them positive, we will start playing better golf and become a more optimistic person, which can help you in many facets of your life. Change your thoughts and see the positive results.
